My life is a balancing act, walking a tightrope between faith (not religion), belief (not superstition) and a joy that comes out of working with clay. So how do I approach the theme of a talisman in my work, shying away as I do from superstitious beliefs that blindfold one’s aura?
We grew up wearing talismans, what we called "good-luck charms", as neck-pieces. I remember wearing a blue Turkish evil-eye and an Egyptian Ankh (love) symbol (yes.... very hippy!), always wound up with thin copper wires, which is what I have done for this ceramic installation as well.
I have conjured up a tableau of objects suspended on a wash of porcelain beads, where you either recognize forms, or wonder if they are indeed talismanic. Finally, one believes in whatever gives one solace; along a middle-ground between ancient & occult cultures and a hash-tagged world of today.
A farrago of …protection, health, wealth, …love?

Sodafired porcelain and stoneware, with copper and stainless steel for suspension.
