Sachin Tendulkar Mural

In 2013, I was commissioned to create a retirement gift for Sachin Tendulkar, arguably the greatest cricketer the world has known. The introduction came through Zaheer Khan, who asked if I would make something for Sachin.... as if that were an option at all!
So I requested Zaheer to reach out to the people who knew him best, past players, current teammates, and family, and asked each to send me a single photograph of themselves with Sachin. My inbox was soon filled with images from cricketing legends, from Kumble, Laxman, Dravid, ...to Sehwag, Yuvraj, Virat and the then current young brigade! These images I wove into a collage, printed on canvas, and painted over in my own style, ...pushed toward abstraction while keeping the key moments and players of his career recognisable beneath the surface.
Soon after receiving the present, Sachin called to thank me personally, and an unexpected friendship began. That connection led to a second commission, this one requested by him directly: a mural for his home in Lonavala, featuring his family and his coach, etc.
Both murals are approximately 8’ x 4’, printed media and acrylic on canvas. The teammates' collage now hangs in his Bombay home in Bandra, while the family piece resides in the more private setting of his residence in Lonavala.
